Thursday, 12th February 2026 marked another significant day of infrastructural advancement in Isuikwuato Local Government Area, as the Executive Mayor, Hon. Chinedu Ekeke, flagged off the construction of the Ndundu Evening Market in Ndundu, Ikeagha I Ward 8, and officially handed over the reconstructed Ihuku Bridge in Achara-Mbaugwu, Ward 7, Uturu.
At Ndundu, the Mayor described the evening market as a modern commercial facility designed with standard operating infrastructure, including provision for 24-hour electricity.
Reaffirming his commitment to rural development, Hon. Ekeke declared that “no community in Isuikwuato will be left behind.” He further reiterated that the administration remains committed to delivering people-centered governance in alignment with the transformative vision of Governor Alex Otti for Abia State.
The Councillor representing Ikeagha I Ward 8, Hon. Okeoma Peter Onyekachi, and the President General of Ndundu community, Mr. Ofondu Christian, assured that the community would take ownership of the project and protect it to ensure its longevity.
In their goodwill messages, the Deputy Mayor, Hon. Ifeanyi Njoko, and the Member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Lucky Johnson, commended the initiative, describing it as a welcome development that will enhance the economic wellbeing of residents. Hon. Johnson also highlighted the cordial and unified working relationship among public office holders in the LGA.
After the flagoff event at Ndundu, the Mayor proceeded to Achara-Mbaugwu, Ward 7, Uturu, where he conducted the official handover of the reconstructed Ihuku Bridge.
Before its reconstruction, the bridge was severely deteriorated and on the verge of collapse — a situation that would have cut off the community from the Uturu metropolis, crippling trade, commerce, and access to essential services. The swift intervention of the Local Government has now averted that looming crisis and restored safe and reliable connectivity.
During the handover, Hon. Ekeke emphasized that infrastructure projects that safeguard lives and sustain economic activity remain a top priority of his administration.
The Deputy Mayor, Hon. Njoko Ifeanyim; the Member representing Isuikwuato Constituency, Hon Lucky Johnson; the Councillor of Ward 7, Hon. Ibeaja Onyekachi; and the Leader of Abia Arise in Ward 7, Comrade Uchenna Uzoigwe, all praised the Mayor for the timely and impactful intervention.
Community leaders, women leaders, youth representatives, clergy, and other stakeholders also expressed gratitude, describing the reconstruction as a life-saving and economically strategic project.
Both events underscore the administration’s resolve to deepen infrastructure renewal, expand economic opportunities, and deliver inclusive development across all communities in Isuikwuato Local Government Area.
