Policy Statement
Isuikwuato Local Government Area is committed to promoting sustainable agriculture, improving food security, increasing agricultural productivity, and creating economic opportunities for farmers and agribusinesses. Recognizing agriculture as the backbone of the local economy, the Council shall continue to implement policies and programmes that enhance food production, support rural livelihoods, and encourage investment across the agricultural value chain.
Background
Agriculture has long been the primary occupation of many residents of Isuikwuato and remains central to the Local Government’s economic growth and social development. Fertile land, favourable climatic conditions, and a resilient farming population provide significant opportunities for agricultural expansion.
To harness this potential, the Local Government is promoting mechanized farming, commercial agriculture, value addition, and strategic partnerships aimed at increasing productivity while ensuring environmental sustainability.

Agricultural programmes shall promote the participation of women, youth, cooperatives, and smallholder farmers.
Current Initiatives and Achievements
In furtherance of this policy, Isuikwuato Local Government Area has:
- Introduced the 50-Hectare Cassava Production Cluster Project, allocating approximately five hectares of mechanized cassava cultivation in each of the ten political wards.
- Revived mechanized farming within the Local Government after more than three decades, creating new opportunities for commercial agriculture.
- Is implementing the Joint AgricultureIntervention Committee Project.
- Encouraged cooperative farming and community participation in agricultural production.
- Promoted partnerships with relevant government agencies, research institutions, and development partners to improve agricultural productivity.
- Continued to support initiatives that strengthen food production and rural economic development.
Implementation Framework

- Promote mechanized farming and improved agricultural practices.
