Isuikwuato Local Government Area is committed to establishing and maintaining an efficient, secure, and accountable records management system that preserves the integrity of official information, supports effective decision-making, promotes transparency, and safeguards the institutional memory of the Local Government.
The Council recognizes that accurate records are essential to good governance, quality service delivery, legal compliance, and public accountability.
Background
The effective management of public records is fundamental to the administration of government. As Isuikwuato Local Government Area embraces digital transformation, there is an increasing need to ensure that both physical and electronic records are properly created, maintained, protected, and preserved.
This policy provides a framework for the responsible management of records throughout their lifecycle, from creation to archival preservation or lawful disposal.
Policy Objectives
This policy seeks to:

Current Initiatives
In support of this policy, Isuikwuato Local Government Area is:
- Progressively digitizing administrative records and documentation.
- Developing digital systems for the management of Certificates of Local Government of Origin, Street Naming Applications, and the Registration of Organizations and Associations.
- Strengthening electronic record-keeping through the official Local Government website and Digital Service Delivery Platform.
- Promoting secure storage and improved retrieval of official records.
- Enhancing administrative efficiency through digital documentation and workflow management.
Implementation Framework
The Local Government shall:
- Develop standardized procedures for records creation, storage, retrieval, retention, and disposal.
- Encourage departments and units to adopt electronic document management systems.
- Maintain secure physical and digital archives.
- Provide capacity building for staff on records management and digital documentation.
- Periodically review records management practices to ensure continuous improvement.
